Getting Everyone Together and Making A Difference
G.E.T. M.A.D. exists to provide middle-school students with a fun, safe and
productive environment to connect with Jesus, our church, and each other!
For Students Grades 6-8, Meets one Sunday night a month, plus events.
For the 2011-2012 school year we will meet the 3rd Sunday night of every month,
September through April.
Contact person: Fig VanderMolen (616-560-5607)
All Jr. High Students and their Friends (Grades 6-8) are invited to our meetings and events—We use fun and fellowship to help students grow closer to each other, to our adult leaders and ultimately closer to Jesus. There is a place for your student with us!
Typical Meeting: We join together once a month after the evening church service in the DECK (Education Building adjacent to the church in back parking lot) we usually start around 6:45pm. We eat a meal, provided by parent volunteers (in a rotation). We then play a game or host a fun challenge that encourages the high-energy behavior so many of the students have (some of the leaders too…!). Following the game we gather for a lesson time. We try to teach and lead through discussion, activities, peer-sharing and instruction. We spend the remaining time as ‘hang-out’ time—an opportunity for students to connect with other students and adults including ping pong, Foosball, simply chatting, etc. We end the night by 8:30pm.
2011-2012 Theme: “Cross Training” In our lesson times this year we will be looking at different Spiritual Disciplines. We will learn and practice how these activities can strengthen our personal relationship with Christ. These are ways we exercise and grow our faith. We hope to continue equipping students with the tools they need for continued self-guided spiritual growth throughout Jr. High and beyond!
Events (Past and future): We host a variety of events throughout the year such as: Fall Fun Night, Skating Party, Snow Tubing, Swimming Night, Craig’s Cruisers Trip, Lock-In, Christmas Party, etc. We also host an overnight Spring Retreat each year. We have a few fundraisers throughout the year to provide the funds for students to attend events; we be sure that no student will have to come up with money out-of-pocket to attend our activities!
